The Impact of COVID-19 Traumatic Stress Global Workers

COVID-19 Traumatic Stress on Global Workers Survey

Dear Tribe: I’m partnering with a doctoral psychology research student to better understand COVID-19’s traumatic stress on global workers and missionaries. I know I’ve spoken to many of you who were negatively impacted by COVID-19 while serving cross-culturally from having to emergency evacuate your host country, to not being able to return due to COVID-19 restrictions. There is trauma in that. I wrote about this challenge here and how you can use self-care tools during this unfortunate and challenging transition. Understanding how these experiences have shaped you will give us clearer understanding on how best to serve you and your mental health going forward.

A mental health therapist for global workers, Danielle H. Johnson, is conducting a survey for her doctoral research at Regent University. The study is titled “The Impact of COVID-19 Traumatic Stress on Global Workers.” The primary focus of the study is on researching the psychological impacts of COVID-19 on Christian global workers.

This study will explore the psychological stress caused by the pandemic and its effect on life satisfaction and mental wellness among Christian global workers. Your participation will contribute to understanding the pandemic’s impact on global workers and help create strategies to enhance mental health outcomes during global crises.

To participate, you must:

  • Have served as a cross-cultural global worker between March 2020 and December 2022.
  • You must have been at least 18 years old at any point during your service term between March 2020 and December 2022.
  • Have served outside the country most salient to your nationality.
  • Speak English fluently.
  • Be willing to provide informed consent to participate in the study.

If you qualify and are willing, please take a moment to fill out this online survey

It should take less than 10 minutes. Your responses are confidential, and your personal information won’t be disclosed in any study results.

Feel free to ask any questions or request further information by emailing Danielle at globalworkresearch2023@gmail.com. You may also contact her dissertation chair, Dr. Lisa Compton, at lisacom@regent.edu.
